How to Use the Concrete Fiber Calculator

Concrete fiber is commonly specified as a weight of fiber per unit volume of concrete. The Concrete Fiber Calculator multiplies the concrete volume by the dosage rate that you enter. This makes it useful for ready-mix orders, slabs, foundations, pads, warehouse floors and other concrete placements where fiber quantity is tied to total batch volume.

Use Slab Fiber when you know slab length, width and thickness but do not yet know the concrete volume. Use Known Volume when the concrete order is already known in cubic yards. Use Metric Fiber for cubic meters and kilograms per cubic meter. Use Compare Dosage when you need to see how two specified rates affect total fiber weight.

Important: this page is a quantity calculator, not a fiber-design tool. It does not select fiber type, fiber geometry, dosage, equivalent reinforcement, slab thickness, joint spacing or structural performance.

                          Concrete Fiber Dosage Formula

The basic formula is direct: multiply concrete volume by the specified fiber dosage. If the concrete volume is measured in cubic yards and dosage is in pounds per cubic yard, the result is pounds of fiber.

U.S. Customary Fiber Formula Fiber Weight (lb) = Concrete Volume (yd³) × Fiber Dosage (lb / yd³)

Use the exact dosage specified for the selected fiber product and project.

Metric Fiber Formula Fiber Weight (kg) = Concrete Volume (m³) × Fiber Dosage (kg / m³)

The metric calculator keeps volume and dosage in matching metric units.

                          Example: 10 yd³ at 1.5 lb/yd³

If a concrete placement contains 10 cubic yards and the specified fiber dosage is 1.5 pounds per cubic yard, the total fiber weight is 15 pounds: 10 × 1.5 = 15 lb. If each fiber package weighs 5 pounds, the project would require three whole packages.

                          Concrete Slab Fiber Calculator

When you do not know concrete volume yet, calculate the slab first. Multiply slab length by width by thickness, convert thickness from inches to feet, and divide cubic feet by 27 to get cubic yards. The calculator then multiplies the adjusted concrete volume by the fiber dosage.

                          Slab Fiber Calculation Slab yd³ = [Length × Width × (Thickness ÷ 12)] ÷ 27
Fiber lb = Slab yd³ × Dosage lb/yd³

The selected volume allowance is applied before fiber weight is calculated.

For a dedicated slab quantity and thickness comparison, use the Concrete Slab Thickness Calculator. For broader slab, wall, footing and pier quantities, use the Concrete Calculator.

Concrete Fiber Types and Why Dosage Must Be Entered

Concrete fibers are not one interchangeable product category. Products can differ in material, length, geometry, surface treatment, density, intended function and recommended dosage. Examples can include micro synthetic fibers, macro synthetic fibers, steel fibers and specialty fibers.

Because those products can be designed for different purposes, this calculator intentionally does not insert a universal dosage. The correct rate should come from the product manufacturer, approved mix design, project specification or qualified design professional.

                          Micro Synthetic Fibers

Micro synthetic fibers are often used for purposes different from larger structural or macro fibers. Do not assume a dosage from one product applies to another simply because both are synthetic fibers.

                          Macro Synthetic Fibers

Macro synthetic fiber systems can have product-specific performance data and dosage requirements. Use the approved rate for the actual system.

                          Steel Fibers

Steel fiber dosage can differ substantially from synthetic fiber dosage. Enter the specified weight-per-volume rate rather than using a generic calculator preset.

                          Fiber Package Count Calculator

Once total fiber weight is known, divide by the weight of one package and round up to the next whole package. This is useful when fibers are supplied in bags, boxes, water-soluble pouches or other pre-measured packaging.

Fiber Package Formula Packages = Total Fiber Weight ÷ Weight Per Package

Round up to a whole package unless the supplier allows partial package batching.

Check whether one package is intended for a specific batch size or mixer load. Packaging and dosing procedures can be part of the product instructions.

Concrete Fiber Calculator for Foundations, Pads and Floors

The same dosage formula can be used for foundations, pads, garage floors, warehouse slabs, driveways and other concrete placements as long as the fiber rate is specified by concrete volume. First calculate the project concrete volume, then multiply by the specified dosage.

For a foundation with several components, calculate total concrete using the Concrete Foundation Calculator, then enter the final cubic-yard quantity into the Known Volume fiber calculator above. This keeps the geometry calculation separate from the fiber dosage calculation.

                          Concrete Fiber Dosage Figure

Fiber quantity is based on concrete volume multiplied by the specified weight of fiber per unit volume.

CONCRETE VOLUME yd³ or m³ × SPECIFIED DOSAGE lb / yd³ or kg / m³ TOTAL FIBER WEIGHT → PACKAGES
                          1. Concrete Volume Start with the actual cubic yards or cubic meters in the pour.
                          2. Specified Dosage Use the approved fiber weight per unit volume.
                          3. Total Fiber Multiply volume by dosage to calculate total fiber weight.
                          4. Package Count Divide total weight by the actual package weight and round as required.

                          Concrete Fiber Material Cost Calculator

The calculator can estimate a basic fiber-material cost when you enter package weight and price per package. Total fiber weight is divided by package weight, rounded up to a whole package, and multiplied by the entered package price.

This does not include the concrete itself, batching charges, delivery, mixer time, labor, special handling, admixtures, reinforcement, testing or other project costs.

Do I Add Waste to Concrete Fiber?

The slab calculator applies the selected allowance to concrete volume before fiber weight is calculated. This is useful when your final concrete order includes additional volume beyond the exact slab geometry. If you are entering an already-finalized ready-mix order in the Known Volume calculator, do not add another concrete allowance unless that is intentional.

Fiber packaging can also affect ordering. If the exact calculated weight is not an even multiple of package weight, the calculator rounds package count upward. Confirm how partial packages are handled for the actual product and batching method.

                          Concrete Fiber Planning Checklist

                          • Calculate the actual concrete volume for the pour.
                          • Confirm whether dosage is specified in lb/yd³ or kg/m³.
                          • Use the dosage for the exact fiber product and project—not a generic rate.
                          • Confirm fiber package weight and how packages are batched.
                          • Check whether fibers are added at the batch plant or by another approved method.
                          • Keep units consistent throughout the calculation.
                          • Do not substitute one fiber product or dosage for another without approval.
                          • Coordinate fiber use with the concrete mix design and project specification.
                          • Do not assume fiber replaces conventional reinforcement unless the design specifically allows it.
                          • Confirm the final quantity with the concrete supplier and fiber manufacturer when required.

                          Common Concrete Fiber Calculation Mistakes

                          1. Guessing the Dosage Rate

Fiber dosage is product- and project-specific. Enter the approved rate rather than a generic assumption.

                          2. Mixing lb/yd³ With kg/m³

Use matching volume and weight units. The U.S. and metric calculators are separated to reduce unit errors.

                          3. Using Slab Area Instead of Concrete Volume

Fiber dosage based on lb/yd³ or kg/m³ requires concrete volume, not square footage alone.

                          4. Forgetting Extra Concrete in the Order

If the actual ready-mix order is higher than geometric slab volume, fiber quantity may also need to reflect that volume.

                          5. Ignoring Package Size

The exact calculated weight may not match whole package increments.

                          6. Assuming Fiber Automatically Replaces Rebar

The calculator only determines quantity from a dosage entered. It makes no reinforcement-equivalency decision.

Concrete Fiber Calculator Accuracy and Limitations

The calculator uses straightforward weight-per-volume arithmetic. Its mathematical result is accurate for the concrete volume and dosage entered, but it cannot verify that the selected dosage, fiber type, mix design or application is appropriate for the project.

For concrete technical resources, visit the American Concrete Institute and the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association. Product-specific dosage, mixing and placement instructions should come from the fiber manufacturer and the approved project documents.

For general concrete volume, use the Concrete Calculator. You can return to the Concrete Fiber Calculator above to compare concrete volume, dosage and package sizes before ordering.

                          Concrete Fiber Calculator FAQs

Common questions about fiber dosage, pounds per cubic yard, kilograms per cubic meter, fiber packages, slabs and material cost.

Multiply concrete volume by the specified fiber dosage. For example, cubic yards multiplied by pounds per cubic yard gives total pounds of fiber.
Use the dosage specified for the actual fiber product, mix design and project. This calculator does not choose a universal dosage rate.
Yes. The Slab Fiber calculator converts length, width and thickness into cubic yards and then multiplies that volume by the entered dosage.
Yes. Use the Known Volume calculator and enter the final cubic-yard quantity directly.
Yes. The Metric Fiber calculator uses cubic meters and kilograms per cubic meter.
Divide total required fiber weight by the weight of one package and round up to a whole package unless the supplier allows partial packaging.
This calculator cannot make that determination. Reinforcement substitution or equivalency must come from the approved design, specifications and applicable technical requirements.
Yes. The Compare Dosage option shows total fiber weight and package differences for two entered rates.
No. The optional cost estimate uses only fiber package count and price per package.
If fiber dosage applies to the concrete actually batched, use the final approved concrete volume that will receive the fiber.
