There is no single statewide price that accurately describes concrete cost in Tennessee. Ready-mix pricing depends on the batch plant, metro area, haul distance, order size, mix design, admixtures, fuel costs, seasonal demand and whether the order triggers delivery or short-load charges. Installed project cost also depends on excavation, base preparation, forms, reinforcement, access, pumping, placement method, finishing and contractor labor.
For 2026 planning, Concrete Network currently reports a national ready-mix benchmark of about $179.95 per cubic yard and notes that prices vary by region. This is a national reference—not a Tennessee quote. The safest way to estimate a Tennessee project is to calculate your cubic yards and enter a current local supplier quote into the calculator above.
Add delivery, short-load, pumping and other quoted fees separately.
The calculators keep these items separate so you can replace assumptions with real local quotes.
A small Nashville patio can have a different per-square-foot cost than a rural driveway requiring a long delivery distance. Likewise, a Chattanooga decorative patio may cost more per square foot than a simple broom-finished slab because the finish requires more labor and specialty materials.
The cost per cubic yard is the foundation of a ready-mix budget. A quoted price may or may not include delivery, fuel or environmental surcharges, minimum-load charges, fibers, accelerators, retarders, color, higher-strength mixes, hot-weather measures or pumping. Ask the supplier what is included before comparing quotes.
Nashville Ready Mix serves the Nashville market and offers project-specific quotes, while East Tennessee Mobile Mix serves the Greater Knoxville and Johnson City area and directs customers to request current pricing. This is why the calculator asks for your actual local $/yd³ figure instead of publishing one fixed statewide Tennessee number.
This table shows theoretical cubic-yard quantities for common slab sizes. The dollar columns use example planning rates only so you can understand the math; replace them with your local Tennessee quote in the calculator above.
| Project | Thickness | Base Volume | With 10% Overage | At $160/yd³ | At $195/yd³ |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10 × 10 ft slab | 4 in | 1.23 yd³ | 1.36 yd³ | $217 | $265 |
| 12 × 20 ft patio | 4 in | 2.96 yd³ | 3.26 yd³ | $522 | $635 |
| 20 × 20 ft slab | 4 in | 4.94 yd³ | 5.43 yd³ | $869 | $1,059 |
| 20 × 24 ft slab | 4 in | 5.93 yd³ | 6.52 yd³ | $1,043 | $1,271 |
| 24 × 24 ft garage slab | 4 in | 7.11 yd³ | 7.82 yd³ | $1,252 | $1,525 |
| 18 × 40 ft driveway | 5 in | 11.11 yd³ | 12.22 yd³ | $1,956 | $2,383 |
| 20 × 50 ft driveway | 5 in | 15.43 yd³ | 16.98 yd³ | $2,717 | $3,310 |
Illustrative material-only math; excludes local delivery, short-load, pumping, labor, base, forms, reinforcement, tax treatment and other project costs.
Nashville, Murfreesboro, Franklin, Brentwood and surrounding Middle Tennessee communities have a large construction market, but concrete cost still varies with plant location, order size, delivery time, access and finishing level. Nashville Ready Mix serves Middle Tennessee and provides quote-based pricing rather than a single public statewide rate.
For Middle Tennessee projects, ask whether the quote includes delivery, short-load charges, fuel/environmental fees, truck waiting time and admixtures. Tight residential sites may also require a pump or extra placement labor.
Knoxville, Johnson City, Kingsport, Maryville and other East Tennessee communities have different supplier coverage, terrain, weather and haul distances from Middle or West Tennessee. East Tennessee Mobile Mix serves the Knoxville-area market and directs customers to request current project pricing.
For East Tennessee, calculate your cubic yards first and then compare ready-mix, base-preparation and contractor quotes. Do not assume a Nashville-area price accurately represents a Knoxville, Tri-Cities or rural mountain-area project.
Chattanooga, Clarksville, Memphis, Cookeville and other Tennessee communities can have different delivery routes, labor markets and supplier availability than Nashville or Knoxville. Decorative patios, exposed aggregate and stamped concrete also require more finishing labor than plain broom-finished slabs.
For projects outside major metro areas, confirm the ready-mix plant's service area, mileage or truck-time charges, minimum-load rules and whether a concrete pump is needed. These logistics can materially affect the effective cost per yard.
The cubic-yard quantity is only the starting point. Location, access, finish, base work and delivery can change the final installed cost.
A concrete driveway budget includes more than the concrete truck. Excavation, grading, compacted base, forms, joints, reinforcement where specified, placement, finishing and curing all contribute to the installed price. Replacement projects also need demolition and disposal of the old driveway.
A current 2026 Concrete Network guide gives a national plain-gray driveway range of roughly $5 to $8 per square foot and a decorative range of roughly $8 to $21 per square foot. These are national references, not Tennessee bids. Use the driveway calculator above to replace broad benchmarks with your local material, labor and base costs.
Patios are usually smaller than driveways, but small-job economics can make the effective cost per square foot higher. A contractor still has mobilization, forming, finishing and cleanup time even when the pour is only a few cubic yards. Decorative finishes, exposed aggregate, integral color, staining, saw-cut patterns and sealing can further increase cost.
For a plain patio, calculate the concrete quantity first, then add the contractor's finishing and base-preparation rates. For decorative work, add the finish/sealer rate separately so you can see how much of the budget comes from the decorative upgrade rather than raw concrete volume.
Garage floors, shop slabs, equipment pads and shed slabs can require different thickness, reinforcement and subgrade preparation. The calculator deliberately does not choose those design values for you. Enter the thickness required by your plans, local code, engineer or qualified contractor.
For larger shop or garage slabs, pump access, laser screeding, power troweling, vapor barriers, insulation, radiant heat tubing and floor-flatness requirements can materially change the installed price. Treat those as project-specific extras.
The Tennessee Department of Revenue states that the general state sales tax rate is 7%. Local sales and use tax rates vary by county and/or city and may not exceed 2.75%. Because the applicable local rate depends on the project location and transaction, the calculator does not automatically add one statewide combined rate.
Tennessee Department of Revenue contractor guidance says contractors and subcontractors are generally the users and consumers of materials, supplies and taxable services used to improve real property, and generally owe sales or use tax on those purchases. Separate department guidance says labor performed on real property is not subject to sales tax. The ready-mix calculator therefore defaults the tax field to zero so you can enter a rate only when it applies to the amount you are modeling and is not already reflected in your supplier or contractor quote.
Use real dimensions and thickness so the yardage estimate is not inflated by guesswork.
A lower $/yd³ can be offset by delivery, fuel, waiting or short-load charges.
Good access can reduce pumping and labor requirements, depending on the project.
Price broom, exposed aggregate, stamped, color and sealer options independently.
Before ordering, ask for the quoted price per cubic yard, the minimum load, delivery charge, short-load fee, included unloading time, waiting-time charge, fuel/environmental surcharge, weekend or after-hours surcharge, and prices for any specified admixtures, fibers or special mix requirements. Confirm the plant's service area and whether your project needs a concrete pump.
Also ask how the supplier wants final yardage rounded and what happens if you need a small balance load. Ordering too little can create a costly interruption, while excessive over-ordering creates disposal and cleanup issues.
